DAVID H. KING

Mr. King is currently an attorney with the firm, previously served as the Assistant City Attorney for the cities of El Segundo, Bellflower (2016-2018), La Habra Heights, Lomita and Rolling Hills (2013-2014) and was a Deputy City Attorney for the cities of Montebello, Pico Rivera and Pomona (2007-2013).  Before joining HLG, Mr. King was a member of Jenkins & Hogin, LLP (2013-2014) and Alvarez-Glasman & Colvin (2007-2013).  Mr. King also interned in the Los Angeles City Attorney’s office (2005).    

Mr. King works closely with governmental agencies, officials, and staff members, and has counseled officials and staff members on matters including the California Public Records Act, California Election Law, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  In addition, Mr. King's litigation experience includes cases involving writs of mandate, the Workplace Violence Safety Act, breach of contract, the Ralph M. Brown Act, conflicts of interest, and Anti-SLAPP.  Mr. King has successfully handled three bench trials and defended two of those decisions in the Court of Appeal. Furthermore, Mr. King works with law enforcement officials and advocates in court, on behalf of the firm's city clients, to ensure compliance with city municipal codes.

Mr. King is a devoted advocate for California cities and public law issues.  Mr. King served on the Municipal Law Handbook Committee with the League of California Cities (2012-2015) and as a member of the Executive Committee of the State Bar Public Law Section (2013-2016).  On both committees, Mr. King advised other public lawyers throughout the state on developments in municipal law and helped publish a variety of important educational materials.  Mr. King also teaches as an adjunct law professor at Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.

Mr. King is a member of the California State Bar and the City Attorney’s Association of Los Angeles County.  Mr. King earned his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 2007.  He earned his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2002.
